Cytoscopy Room

Cytoscopy may be performed as in and/or patient procedure.
Radiology Department

The department of diagnostic radiology provides a state of the art imaging studies (conventional, CT scan, Ultra sound, MRI, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Osteodensitometry, and Angiography).

The service managed efficiently for both in and patients services to cover broad and specialized studies. State of the art instrument are used to cover almost all known technologies. Images and reports are available on the hospital information system (HIS-RIS-PACS).

Staff with diverse specialization and technical skills is available to provide test results with clinical interpretation and medical education.
Endoscopy Suite

Diagnostic and therapeutic advanced upper and lower G.I. tract endoscopies are performed in the endoscopy suite. They include gastroscopies, colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies and endoscopic retrograde cholongiopancreatography (ERCP).

The majority of the procedures are performed in the endoscopy suite. However, when required, they are also conducted at the bedside, in the OR or radiology department.
Laboratory medicine Department

The Department of Laboratory Medicine provides a state of the art clinical and research testing, supported with customized laboratory information system. Result processing, quality management and performance improvement programs of the laboratory are integrated into the hospital management information system and database.

The service is managed efficiently for both in and patient services to cover broad and specialized variety of tests. State of the art instruments are used to cover almost all known different technologies for all types of testing with confirmatory capability not excluding environmental analysis. Automation with bilateral computer inter-phase with the Hospital Management Information System insures minimal human interference.

Staff with diverse specialization and technical skills is available to provide test results with clinical interpretation and medical correlation. Continuous medical education is our goal. Quality management is the focus of our practice. The medical team in the laboratory complements specialization with laboratory and research experience.

The laboratory medicine components cover Microbiology, Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, Toxicology, Serology and all approved screening tests.
Other Diagnostic Procedures

  • Cardiology:

    Non invasive cardiology testing provides the following services: Electrocardiography, Holter Monitoring and Stress Testing Lab including Treadmill exercise test and Stress echocardiography. It also provides an Echocardiography Lab which includes Trans-thoracic echocardiography, Transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and Dobutamine echocardiography, as well as Nuclear Cardiology which provides Radionuclide stress testing: Thallium/Sestamibi Stress Test and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring, in addition to the Autonomic Challenge (Tilt Table test).

  • Neurology:

    The Neurology Services provided at RHUH are of the highest standards, and use the most advanced equipment. They include: Electroencephalogram, Sleep studies, Electromyogram, Audiogram and Nerve conduction test. Sleep studies will be introduced in the future.

  • Pulmonary function Test (PFT):

    Pulmonary function lab deals with pulmonary physiology testing including Spirometry and lung volume measurements, diffusion capacity measurement, Broncho-provocation studies, cardio pulmonary exercise testing, capnometry and metabolic studies, arterial blood gas measurement and pulse oxymetry.

    Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies are also performed in the endoscope suite, and rarely in the radiology department under fluoroscopic guidance.
Pathology Department

The pathology department is mainly a diagnostic center performing rine Surgical Pathology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neuropathology, Gastrointestinal, Hematopathology, Fine needle and CT guided sampling, frozen tissue and Autopsy services.

In addition, more advanced studies are performed including immunohistochemistry, tissue sampling for molecular studies, flow cytometry
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department delivers comprehensive services to individuals with physical and mental dysfunction secondary to disease or injury. Services include physical assessment, development of treatment plans, delivery and documentation of care, consultation, reevaluation, discharge planning, and patient/family education.

This department collaborates with: Orthopaedic, Rheumatology unit, Neurology unit, Respiratory unit, Cardio-vascular unit, Pediatric unit, ICU (immobile patients), Burns unit, Gynecology &Obstetric unit, and Pain relief unit.

The Physiotherapy Department provides four kinds of treatments namely thermotherapy, Manual and Mechanical therapy, Electrotherapy, and Hydrotherapy.
Department of Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology offers state-of-the-art treatment for cancer patients including a complete clinical evaluation, staging, individualized radiation therapy and follow-up care. We are equipped with a simulator, two eleckta dual energy Linear accelerators with multi leaf collimators a treatment and verify system as well as an ADAC treatment planning system. The department also includes a High dose rate brachytherapy treatment unit capable of delivering intra-cavitary, endo-luminal and interstitial brachytherapy treatments.

Other activities include performance improvement, health physics support, treatment planning, technical quality control, staff continuing education and research.
Emergency

The Emergency Unit will start functioning in the future.
Hemodialysis

The Renal Unit provides Hemodialysis treatments for inpatients and patients with acute and chronic renal problems. The placement of temporary and permanent hemodialysis catheters and peritoneal dialysis catheters are performed in OR and also in this unit.
One Day Chemotherapy

Provide ambulatory Chemotherapy treatment under close supervision for pediatric and adult patients.
Dentistry and Oral surgery clinics

The clinics will start functioning in the future.

  1. Cardiology Division:


    • Coronary Care Unit (CCU):

    The CCU provides cardiac monitoring and specialized therapeutic modality for admitted patient.

    • Invasive Cardiology Unit:


    The following services are provided:


    The Cardiac Catheterization / Interventional Cardiology Laboratory which performs: Right Heart Catheterization, Endomyocardial biopsy, Selective Coronary Arteriography, Coronary Balloon Angioplasty, Coronary Stenting, Intracoronary Brachytherapy, and Percutaneous Balloon Valvuloplasty.


    The Electrophysiology Laboratory is in the planning phase and will include: Electrophysiologic studies and the mapping of the heart, Radiofrequency Arrhythmia Ablation, Permanent Pace maker Implantation, and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (I C D).

  1. Pulmonary and Intensive Care Division:
  • Multidisciplinary adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU): The ICU is a multidisciplinary unit providing critical medical care for adult and pediatric medical and surgical patients including post operative care, emergency care and patients with respiratory monitoring needs.
  • Intermediate Care Unit:

This unit is currently in the planning phase.

Surgery Department

A- The goals of the Surgery Department are:
  • Advancement of clinical care of patients under the most recent and advanced international standards tailored to our needs in Lebanon.
  • Advancement of the academic teaching for the students and residents of programs affiliated with our university hospital.
  • Attain superb standards in ethical issues regarding patient care.
  • Coordinated efforts with the directives of the Ministry of Health in Lebanon for the proper preventive medical measures and screening of surgical diseases.
  • Delivery of excellent clinical care in Lebanon and the region.
  • Development of surgical protocols consistent with international standards.
  • Keeping up with the most recent surgical techniques and international standards.

C- Operating rooms:


The O.R. provides surgical services to inpatients, and emergency cases of all ages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

RHUH operating suites consist of 12 advanced operating rooms:
Each operating room is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment for surgery and general anesthesia.

RHUH operating rooms support all surgical specialties: General, Urology, Orthopedics, Open heart, Thoracic, Vascular, ENT, Maxillofacial, Obstetric and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Plastic, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, and Transplantation.

These operating rooms are also equipped with up to date surgical equipment allowing performance minimally invasive surgery.

Surgeons can send live images and communicate with colleagues via a secured digital connection during the surgical procedures.

The recovery room consists of 20 beds with a central monitoring station. In addition, a four-bed unit for post open heart care (CSICU) is located in the operating room area.
Pediatrics Department

Each patient has a Hospital Care Team with the primary physician and the residents being responsible for coordinating care. A team of nurses also works with the family to provide the best care plan for the child. In addition to physicians and nurses, other hospital staffs that may be involved in the care of the child include: respiratory therapists, physical therapists and nutritionists.
The department provides comprehensive patient care for acute and chronic conditions and is tailored to meet specific needs of each child.

A- New born nursery:

This unit provides medical care for normal newborn infants offering prophylactic care, screening for congenital anomalies and screening tests for metabolic and hematologic disorders. In addition, the new born nursery ensures adequate breast feeding, detects excessive weight loss, and screens for early jaundice, etc.

B- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU):

This unit provides neonatal care for preterm or low birth weight infant (less than 2500g) needing intravenous feeding, infants with significant neonatal problems or illness e.g. jaundice, fever, suspected foeto-maternal infection, respiratory distress syndrome needing major ventilatory support or sub-ventilation care. It also provides case for infants with complex neonatal surgical conditions, before and following surgery.

C- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU):

This unit is currently in the planning phase.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Department

The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has the objective to provide Top-Quality, Health Care for pregnant women as well as offering various Gynecological treatments using the newest technologies.

This department consists of five divisions:
  • Gynecologic Oncology division.
  • Maternal Fetal medicine division.
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology division.
  • Reproductive Medicine.
  • Urogynecology.

Patients are admitted into three wards:
  •  Labor and Delivery Suite, where patients are admitted for delivery with full fetal monitoring system. Normal deliveries as well as Cesarean sections are performed in this ward.
  • Post-natal Ward: Patients are transferred to this ward after delivery. Sympathetic Midwife/Nurses will care, help and educate the new mothers.
  • Gynecology Ward: Patients are admitted to this ward before and after their gynecological operations are performed. Well trained nursing staff will assist patients through their recovery.
    Academically, residents and midwives are guided and instructed by the highly qualified team that is dedicated to meet these challenges.
